Her Left Foot...

Rosie has been battling a hurt foot for a couple of days. We thought it was a sprain from jumping off the bed, but it wasn't getting better so we found a vet to see her.

Before her appointment, we had time to explore the East area of Zion. This area has a scenic drive with a long tunnel. The canyon overlook trail was fun with steep drop offs and stellar views throughout the trail and at the end. The rest of the drive had plenty of interesting geologic features.

We got Rosie looked at and it turns out she had an abscess in her toe (from a poosible thorn). The vet fixed her up with antibiotics, painkillers, club foot, and cone of shame. She is on the mend.

Waiting to go through the one way tunnel (when oversized vehicles are going through).

The views on the Canyon Overlook hike were dramatic.

Canyon views at the end of the hike.

Checkerboard Mesa.
Going back through the tunnel we caught this hiker trying to skirt the no dogs rule by stuffing one in her backpack. She still had another on a leash. Where is a ranger when you need one? Oh, they were playonh traffic cop 10 feet away.
Emerging from the tunnel...
More scenic vistas from the drive.

Biking and Hiking in Zion

Today we took the shuttle up the canyon to the Temple of Sinawava area of Zion. We scored bonus points for using the bike rack on the bus to carry our bikes up to the top. Then we biked down the canyon to Big Bend and then to the Grotto for our hike of the day.

It was pretty tough hike up on the West Rim Trail to Scouts Point. Two sets of switchbacks up the mountain were intense in the 90+F degree heat. The views of Angel's Landing and the surrounding canyon sides were ultimately worth the gruel in the end.

Once back down the trail, we continued our bike ride down to Zion Lodge for lunch and then all the way down to the Visitor Center via the Pa'rus Trail. Our legs are tired now!

The start of our bike ride.

The hike's first set of switchbacks leads to this Vista.

Then you get a break in the shade along the canyon walls.

Angel's Landing is seen across the way.

The road up as seen when we were coming down.

Oops I crapped my pants. This hiker had an unfortunate stain.

More views from the road while biking.

On the Pa'rus Trail this Heron was staying cool and finding his lunch.

The drive back to Hurricane (pronounced hur-i- kun) is pretty too.
